There is increasing adoption of twitter as a customer management and engagement tool. Users are entering full company names too get attention Eg "United Airlines" with high char overhead - lets build a directory to be shared by all Twitter clients of brands and corporate names Eg "UA"

I've noticed some folks using "$" + Stock ticker symbol to represent publicly traded companies:
For example: "I wonder how the $MSFT and $YHOO search agreement will affect $GOOG"
Unfortunately, this doesn't work so well non-public companies, corporate sub-brands (ex: Proctor and Gamble's many household brands), or non-NYSE/NASDAQ companies.
